The Quilts Japan Prize was established in 1994 by Mr. Tadanobu Seto, president of Nihon Vogue Co. Ltd., to honor the American tradition of quiltmaking, to promote exchange between Japanese and American quiltmakers, and to thank American quiltmakers for their contributions to the field.

It is given to one quilt artist annually. The recipient prize is selected by the jurors of Quilt National and Visions exhibits which are held on alternating years. The prize includes travel to several cities in Japan. The Winner also has the opportunity to lecture on topics of his or her choice to a national audience.
