By offering this award, the Guild wishes to recognize the importance that the biennial Visions exhibitions and Quilt San Diego have been to the contemporary and traditional quilting community in the local, national, and international arena. Canyon has asked the President of Quilt San Diego to select the recipient of the award. The President has based her choice on the quilt in the exhibition which she personally finds the most exciting in color, technique, and workmanship. Her decision was difficult because all the quilts in VISIONS: Quilt Expressions are excellent, however, only one could be selected. Visions artist Jan Rickman has been selected to receive the award. Her work is titled Close Encounter and is truly an exceptional representation of the contemporary art quilt.
