The award is being offered to recognize a "newcomer" to the Visions exhibition of art quilts. Among the 80 quilts being featured in this year's exhibition, 47 artists are first time Visions exhibitors. The Board of Directors of Quilt San Diego was asked to select the recipient of the award. Their choice was based on artistic merit, technique, and overall impression. Visions artist Vita Marie Lovett of Marietta, Georgia, was selected to receive the award.
