When I hear "Amish quilts," it's a toss up between thinking of the Esprit
Collection or Julie Silber. Julie has organized some of the most
significant quilt shows in modern quilt history, from "American Quilts: A
Handmade Legacy" at the Oakland Museum in 1981 to "Amish: The Art of the
Quilt" at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco in 1990. She is also the
co-producer of the book by the same title,
Amish: The Art of the Quilt, with text by Robert Hughes published by
Alfred A. Knopf in 1993 (a must book for lovers of Amish quilts). She is
also the curator of several collections, including the Esprit Collection,
and a consultant to the Levi Strauss & Co. of San Francisco.
Working with an internationally recognized team of quilt experts, Julie has
also formed The Quilt Complex.
