Jurors
Will Chandler is proprietor of Chandler Art Consulting Services
in San Diego, California. His consultancy includes personal property
appraisal, art
preservation and architectural history research. A 1973 graduate of UC
Berkeley's College of Environmental Design (B.A. Design: Textiles and
Design History), he was Associate Curator of Decorative Arts at the San
Diego Museum of Art from 1976 to 1988. While at SDMA he provided technical
analysis and conservation for the Binney Quilt Collection, and was curator
of that collection's touring exhibition, "Homage to Amanda," for the
Smithsonian Institution's Traveling Exhibition Service. The exhibition was
seen by more than 600,000 people in fourteen museums across the United
States.
Penny McMorris is currently a consultant to Owens-Corning Fiberglass
Corporation for 1,000-piece Projects: a collection of contemporary
paintings and prints, as well as for two major contemporary quilt
collections. She is a partner in The Electric Quilt Company, a software
firm producing computer software for quilt design. She is curating
collections of contemporary quilts for the Museum of the American Quilter's
Society, Paducah, KY, as well as the Renwick Gallery, Smithsonian
Institution, Washington, DC. She has advised and guest-curated several
contemporary quilt gallery exhibits. Penny, who has an M.A. in Art
History, has produced and hosted two PBS series on quilts, and authored two
books, Crazy Quilts and The Art Quilt.
David Walker has exhibited his work at dozens of venues, including
Quilt National, Athens, OH; Quilt/Surface Design Symposium, Lancaster, OH; Art
Quilt International '94, Mountain View, CA; Quiltfest USA, Louisville, KY;
and Visions 1992: The Art of the Quilt, San Diego, CA. He has presented
lectures and workshops at numerous symposia and shows, most notably for
several consecutive years at Quilt/Surface Design symposium. He has been
published in many quilting and other fiber-related as well as interior
design magazines. David has received awards and recognition by several
arts organizations, including Quilt National, the National Quilting
Association, the Rockefeller Foundation, the "Best of 1988" by the Ohio
Designer Craftsmen, and an Individual Artist's Fellowship for 1995 from the
Ohio Arts Counsel.
