V I S I O N S
VISIONS is a biennial, juried exhibit of contemporary quilts sponsored by Quilt San Diego, an organization dedicated to promoting quiltmaking as an art form. Since its first exhibit in 1988, Visions, with Quilt National, has become a premier showcase of the latest and the best work from around the world in the field of studio art quilts.

VISIONS 1998-99:Quilt Expressions

Passage--Chaco by Katie Pasquini-Masopust
Quilt San Diego's sixth biennial exhibition, will be held from November 7, 1998 through January 31,1999, at the Museum of San Diego History in Balboa Park. Three jurors, Robert Shaw, Libby Lehman and Joan Austin, selected 80 quilts from 895 entries to create a fantastic exhibition that represent the very wide range of quilting styles being practiced today. A full-color catalog will be published by Rutledge Hill Press, Nashville, TN.

Jurors

Robert Shaw, one of the country's leading authorities on American crafts and folk arts, and the author of the acclaimed books Quilts: A Living Tradition; Hawaiian Quilt Masterpieces; America's Traditional Crafts; and, The Art Quilt. The former curator of the Shelburne (Vermont) Museum, he is now a consultant to collectors and museums nationwide.

Libby Lehman, a studio art quilt maker from Houston, Texas. She has taught and lectured extensively throughout the USA as well as Japan, New Zealand, Germany and Switzerland. Her prizewinning quilts are in many private, museum, and corporate collections. She was named by Nihon Vogue as one of the 88 leaders in today's quilt world. Libby has juried and judged for Quilt National '95, American International Quilt Association, Quilter's Heritage and many others. Her latest book Threadplay was released in October 1997.

Joan Austin, is the Head of Textiles and Weaving programs at San Diego State University, School of Art, Design and Art History. She has been teaching at the University for 28 years. Joan is an artist whose work is featured in many publications and museums.
