VIRGINIACASWELLGALLERY

Virginia is 67 years old. With her background in graphic design, she began art-making about 5 years ago getting her master's degree in "Arts and Consciousness." In a short period of time, she's created an impressive amount of work and has exhibited widely. For me, she represents a sprit of adventure that is a real inspiration.

The long and short of it is this: I love to work with natural materials. They add to my already deep appreciation for the beautiful patterns, wonderful textures and subtle, earthy colors found in nature. The "feel" and smell of the materials please me too. And nothing excites my imagination more than a natural material I haven't seen or experienced before. It's as though it has insights to share and presents new challenges to be met.
The masks, baskets and bowls I create using natural materials are friendly, intimate objects and they satisfy my need for direct, hands-on self-expression.
