Painting on Quilts: Artist's Statement

Imagery is crucial to my work and it is the force that motivates me to make a quilt. This is my way of telling a visual story as words do not come easily to me.

My interests in Art are centered on fun, humor and attempting to turn the ordinary into the extraordinary. It is my wish that the viewer be drawn into my work, puzzle over and be amused by what they see. How one might interpret my quilts is, of course, unquestionably personal. Again, it is my hope that each quilt will touch both the imagination and memory in a playful way.

Inspiration comes to me by the everyday situations that I find my friends and myself engaged in. At this stage of the game those events now include marriage, divorce and death. They are the ''food'' for my work. My work is continuing to deal with images on gender issues, woman's place in traditional and in changing American society in a whimsical style.

It's funny thing to think that as a child I was constantly cutting ''paper dolls'' out of magazines, it was then and still remains my life's work and passion.
